The Photographers I Admire by Ali Rajabi

Hello Everyone

About Two weeks ago I just came up with this idea to ask my Instagram followers “Who is your favorite photographer?” As always they were so kind to respond my request and answered the question with a variety of names which it was interesting and at the same time surprising!!!. The list was so diverse, from unknown photographers which I couldn’t find them on the web to such a big and famous names.

I completely understand that everybody have their own taste in the world of photography and art but I thought it might be good idea to list my favorite photographers in the world of visual arts.

The photographers I admire the most, What does it mean ?

The answer is not that complicated. These are the photographers that I can live in their pictures. I dont get tired if I look at their images hundreds of times and I can always discover something new in their footsteps in the art world. These artists had this ability and opportunity to reach their level at the top of their long time career. Definitely, They are the game changer in the world of photography.

So without further aduo this is my list and some of their photographs :

- Gregory Crewdson

“My Pictures are concern with the coming together of beauty and sadness. There is a tension between some sense of stillness and some some sense of unease. Ultimatly these pictures are about a search. attempting to make a connection to something larger than yourself.”

"I want my images to achieve two things in this regard - to be an elegy to a world that is tragically vanishing, to make people see what beauty is disappearing. Also, to try and show that animals are sentient creatures equally as worthy of life as humans."

"Just as in the cinema you wouldn't think that a realistic film is any less filmic than a musical fantasy. They're both part of the cinema. And I see that this is the same in my work, they are different genres that I am interested in and I move between them."

There are so many other great photographers out there that inspired me in these past years, not just in the world of Fine Art but also in different genres of photography. I can assure you if you see other projects, discover the stories of their photographs and read about those photographer’s life, it will help you to move forward in the right direction.

Have a great time.

Focus On Your Network by Ali Rajabi

Sometimes people ask me if I I can give them a piece of advice about their photography career to help them to grow, and I am always saying this. You need two weapons in your pocket, Your Works and Your Connections.

Your works speak for themselves but when it becomes to growing your career as a photographer it is not all about artistic talent. It is about making powerful connections too. This is crucial because, at the end, you have to show your work either in a publication, in a gallery or in any major media or even if you have your own selling or promotional system, you need an audience. So, growing your network should be your priority. Plus with modern-day networking tools like social media, Everything is much more accessible for photographers than it was even 20 years ago when I was growing my own career.

An Interview With Hasselblad by Ali Rajabi

FOCAL LENGTH: 45MM (XCD 3,5/45) SHUTTER SPEED: 1/1500 SEC APERTURE: F/8 ISO: 200

CAPTURING THE SHADES OF THE BIG APPLE

Fine art photographer and Hasselblad Master Ali Rajabi sees the streets as an open world studio, filled with infinite photographic opportunities. Based in New York, Ali used the Hasselblad X1D-50C with the XCD 3,5/45 lens to capture the light and dark shades of his urban playground.

Preferring a fixed focal length, Ali used the XCD 45mm to capture sharp, high quality images. Light plays an important role in Ali’s photographs, with each frame depicting a distinct tension between shadows and highlights. But capturing good quality high-resolution files is another reason why he chooses to shoot with medium format:

Size is important to me.

I don’t want to create small photographs;

they should always be able to maintain their integrity as large pieces.

FOCAL LENGTH: 45MM (XCD 3,5/45) SHUTTER SPEED: 1/750 SEC APERTURE: F/8 ISO: 200

FOCAL LENGTH: 45MM (XCD 3,5/45) SHUTTER SPEED: 1/90 SEC APERTURE: F/3.5 ISO: 3200

You choose this type of camera because you have plans; you know what you want and the most important part for me is that it’s a serious investment in my art career. Of course there are other cameras that are good enough to cover many types of photography, but a Hasselblad puts me in a situation that makes each frame more considered. Shooting with a Hasselblad makes me more patient and encourages me to think more deeply, giving me greater control over every detail.

Explaining his influences and motivations, Ali said, “Photography is a journey for me, but there are so many doors that I need and want to unlock. When I’m looking at photos and the projects that I’ve done so far, I believe there are still a lot of untold stories that I want to share. I want to create and unleash those pictures that are calling out from the depths of my mind.”

Ali believes that photography is a solitary action, finding inspiration in the isolation of his work. “Even when working with a team you’re relying on your own feelings, instincts, experience, and creativity. At the end of it all, it is only you who makes the decisive, final shot.”
